Erithacus rubecula:
The Robin:  Erithacus rubecula:  Recognisable by it's bright red breast, the Robin is one of the nations favourite song birds, and can be heard merrily chirping away throughout the winter months. Males and females are virtually identical, the young don't have a red breast and are spotted with golden brown. The Robin is relatively a small bird, but don't be fooled by it's appearance the male can be quite aggressive and are highly territorial they will quickly drive away intruders.

Diet: Worms, seeds, fruits and insects.

Lengh: 13 - 14cm (5")

Wing Span: 20 - 22cm (8 - 9")

Weight: 16-22 g  (½ - ¾ oz)

The Jay:  Garrulus glandarius: The most colourful member of the crow family is quite a shy bird and can be difficult to see, it tends to hide away in woodland. The jay is one of the rarer birds to visit the bird table and is not very welcome by other birds.

Diet: Acorns (their favourite), nuts, seeds and insects, they will also eat small mammals and young birds..

Lengh:  35 cm  (14")

Wing Span: 52 - 58 cm  (21 - 23")

Weight: 140 - 190 g  (5 - 6¾ oz)

Cyanistes caeruleus:
The Blue Tit: Cyanistes caeruleus: The blue tit another one of the nations favourites and probably the most common of garden birds to visit the bird table. Reconisable by it's mix of blue, yellow, white and green. The blue tit is a very social bird, In winter they form flocks with other species of tit, it's not uncommon to have up to 20 birds feeding off the same table.

Diet: Insects, caterpillars, seeds and nuts.

Lengh: 11.5 cm  (4½")

Wing Span: 17.5 - 20 cm  (7 - 8")

Weight: 9 - 12.5 g  (¼ - ½oz)









The Dunnock: Prunella modularis:  The Dunnock is a small brown and grey bird. Often seen on it's own creeping along hedgerows and flower beds never far away from cover.

Diet: Insects, spiders, worms and seeds.

Lengh: 14.5 cm  (6")

Wing Span: 19 - 21 cm  ( 7- 8")

Weight: 16 - 25 g  (½ - 1 oz)





The Blackbird: Turdus merula:  The male Blackbird as the name suggests is black with a bright orange-yellow beak and eye-ring, the females however are brown with spots and streaks on their breasts. The Blackbird is the commonest of UK birds, they can be found everywhere gardens, parks, towns, in the countryside and on the coast.

Diet: Insects, worms and berries.

Lengh: 24 - 25cm (10")

Wing Span: 35 - 38cm (14-15")

Weight: 80 - 125 g  (3 - 4½ oz)




The Bird Table

The bird table at Marbury Country Park is host to a variety of wild birds, including, Robins, Blackbirds, Blue tits, Chaffinches, Nuthatches, Dunnocks and even the elusive and shy Jay visit the bird table in search of food.
