In February 1946 one of the worst floods in the history of Northwich occurred.

Heavy rainfall and melting snows caused the River Weaver and River Dane to rise unusually quick, a high tide on the River Mersey forced the rivers to backup from Frodsham to Northwich, eventually the River Dane overflowed into London Road and Castle Street then the River Weaver burst it's banks and overflowed into Witton Street and the Bull Ring, eventually the town centre was under several feet of water.

Northwich has a long history of flooding, however the flood of 1946 was particularly devastating because of the large number of people living in the town centre at the time.
